Does The Perfect Golf Swing Really Exist?
It’s difficult to quantify whether or not the perfect golf swing exists. By definition, being perfect means to be flawless, which is as we know, not possible. This would be equivalent to hitting a perfect shot every time, which even for the best golfers in the world simply doesn’t happen.
when talking about the perfect golf swing, we need to analyze it from a slightly different angle. The perfect golf swing would be a swing that is perfect for the individual, maximizing their abilities and potential to the fullest. It doesn’t mean you’ll be the perfect golfer or hit perfect shots every time, it simply means your swing has reached its full potential. Even by these less strict standards of perfection, attaining the perfect swing is rare, yet continues to be what every golfer strives for.
When most of us first took up the game, the perfect swing was far from our minds. Our only goal was simply hitting the ball with some semblance of a golf swing, which was hard enough in itself. The last thing on our mind was swing planes or shoulder turns. Since it’s all but impossible that we could naturally develop a perfect swing plane or perfect golf swing, those habits first developed during our first few golfing sessions have largely shaped the golfer we are today.
The means to achieve the perfect swing rest largely on golf swing training devices, which can help break us from those imperfect swing habits we’ve developed from our golfing adolescence. These devices, while in use, can ‘force’ the perfect swing on you, or at least certain aspects of the swing. They can force you to maintain perfect wrist break and hand movement throughout the swing, give you the perfect positional setup, force you along the perfect swing plane, etc. Through enough use of these devices, these perfect swing attributes will become more firmly entrenched in your swing.
As easy as it might seem to be to simply perfect all areas of your swing through these methods, as you change one thing, all other areas of your swing tend to change slightly as well. Achieving a wider shoulder turn may result in your club drifting off line, or your wrist breaking at the top of your swing, which will force further corrections to be made.
Developing the perfect golf swing is by no means an easy task, and most of us will never achieve such lofty goals. But step by step, we can continually work our way towards it and have a great time along the way. The wonderful thing about golf is that even with an imperfect swing, we can occasionally hit perfect shots, which motivates us and drives us forward so we can experience that feeling again and again, like we could if we possessed a perfect golf swing.
